About The Source

Founded in 2021, the Nyamasasa washing station resides on the shores of Lake Kivu. It is a young company that is currently exporting three to five containers per year of specialty coffee. The coffee is washed at their own washing station, where farmers deliver fresh cherries right after being hand-picked. It is processed and dried at the wet mill level and is then sent to the Jumbo Safari dry mill in Goma to be sorted and prepared for export. When the coffee is ready, it makes the journey to the port of Mombasa, Kenya, or Tanzania. The group of farmers who delivery cherry to the Nyamasasa washing station is around 1,930 farmers who on average each grows 1/3 hectare of coffee. Many farmers live in different communities that were divided by the civil war; however, these dedicated farmers made the choice to combine their strengths in order to build a great future for their communities and they work hard every day to produce high quality coffee.
